Why does a site about weaving need a Diversity and Inclusion Statement?
Unfortunately, socio-political perspectives and culture wars are increasingly influencing all kinds of communities, including those in the creative arts. I hope that these issues never affect our community here, but in case they do, I want to make it clear where I stand.
I believe diversity is valuable, especially in creative fields like designing and weaving. While the weaving community has historically been predominantly older, white, and female, with strong roots in European and Western traditions, weaving itself is a wonderfully diverse and global art form. I want everyone who visits this site and participates in our community to feel respected, welcome, and included.
This means providing a space free from bigotry and discrimination based on race, colour, ethnicity, nationality, sex, gender identity or expression, sexual orientation, socioeconomic background, class, disability or ability, neurodiversity, religion or non-religion, age, or geographic location.
This will always be a work in progress, and I know there will be inadvertent blind spots in my own thinking and in the content of this site. If you notice something I’ve missed, please let me know. I welcome the opportunity to listen, learn, and do better.

If I don’t know you or I’m not sure which pronouns you use, my default is to use the gender-neutral they/them.
